Meaning of Labor Day Discussion
Dakota State to host discussion on true meaning of Labor Day
Public invited to register for Lunch N’ Learn conversation
MADISON, S.D., August 31, 2020 – “We often hear people speak of ‘the true meaning of Christmas,’ said Casualene Meyer, “but how often are we invited to remember ‘the true meaning of Labor Day?’”
Meyer, adjunct instructor of English and member of Dakota State’s Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee, said this concept is the basis for a Lunch N’ Learn remote program held on the holiday.
“Labor Day is a nice day to grill a steak,” she said, but added that “this event is a great opportunity to learn the history of organized labor as well as what’s at stake for employers and employees in the world of work today.”
The informal conversation about labor relations and organized labor will feature panelists from Dakota State and the Madison business community, who will speak from their own experience as labor representatives or as business owners/employers.
The discussion is set for Monday, September 7 at 12:00 noon via Zoom. Community members are invited to watch. Please register in advance for this meeting at
